Input Without Abdication

EXCERT from Ethical Ambition © 1998 by Ronald Rainson:

Seek input without abdicating your management responsibilities. It has been my experience that when management groups first meet, they are anxious to show cooperation and will move rapidly toward consensus. As they listen to each other's views and realize how different they are, the consensus begins to evaporate. It is your task, as a manager and a practitioner of Committee Assisted Management, to identify that point at which the participants are or were in closest accord. It is unrealistic to expect them to reach complete consensus by forcing them to continue to meet. If their near-consensus is compatible with your own observations, a decision is at hand.
